Terms of Service

Welcome to PetMap. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the PetMap application, website and related services (“PetMap” or the “Services”). By using PetMap, you agree to these Terms.

Last updated: 08/08/2026

1. What PetMap does

PetMap helps people discover adoptable pets and communicate with shelters, associations, families and other people responsible for those animals.

PetMap provides technology that facilitates discovery and communication.

PetMap is not a shelter, rescue organization, veterinary provider, adoption agency, animal broker or party to an adoption agreement unless we explicitly state otherwise.

The decision to adopt or transfer an animal is made between the relevant users or organizations.

2. Eligibility

You must meet the minimum legal age required to use PetMap in your jurisdiction.

If you use PetMap on behalf of a shelter, association, business or other organization, you represent that you have authority to act on its behalf.

You must provide accurate information and keep your account information reasonably current.

3. Your account

You are responsible for activity conducted through your account.

You may not:

  • impersonate another person or organization;
  • create accounts using false identities;
  • misrepresent your relationship with a shelter or organization;
  • sell or transfer your account without our permission;
  • use another person’s account without authorization.

Contact us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

4. Pet listings

If you list a pet, you represent that:

  • you have the authority to list the animal;
  • the information you provide is accurate to the best of your knowledge;
  • you have the right to upload the associated photos and videos;
  • you will not intentionally conceal material information relevant to adoption;
  • the listing complies with applicable animal-welfare and other laws.

You should update or remove a listing when the pet is no longer available.

PetMap may remove listings that are misleading, fraudulent, unsafe, outdated or otherwise violate these Terms.

5. Animal welfare

The welfare of animals comes first.

PetMap must not be used to facilitate:

  • animal abuse or neglect;
  • animal fighting;
  • illegal breeding or trafficking;
  • sale or transfer of animals prohibited by law;
  • exploitation of animals;
  • fraudulent adoption schemes;
  • activity that presents an unreasonable risk to an animal.

We may immediately remove content or accounts when we reasonably believe an animal or person may be at risk.

Where appropriate, we may cooperate with competent authorities or animal-welfare organizations.

6. Adoption

PetMap helps users connect, but we do not guarantee an adoption.

A pet’s availability may change at any time.

Shelters, associations and families remain responsible for determining their own adoption requirements and deciding whether an adoption proceeds.

Potential adopters are responsible for determining whether a pet is appropriate for their home and circumstances.

Before adopting, we encourage users to meet the animal, ask questions, review relevant records and follow appropriate adoption procedures.

7. Verification

Some PetMap users or organizations may display verification indicators.

Verification means that PetMap or a service provider has completed a specified verification process.

Verification is not an endorsement or guarantee.

It does not guarantee:

  • a person’s future behavior;
  • the accuracy of every statement they make;
  • an animal’s health;
  • the legitimacy or quality of an adoption;
  • that interacting with the person is risk-free.

Always use appropriate judgment when communicating with or meeting someone through PetMap.

8. Meeting people through PetMap

PetMap may lead to real-world meetings.

You are responsible for deciding whether, when and where to meet another user.

For your safety, consider:

  • meeting in an appropriate public or professional location;
  • telling someone you trust where you’re going;
  • avoiding sending money before verifying the other party;
  • protecting your home address and sensitive information;
  • ending communication if something feels suspicious;
  • reporting suspicious behavior to PetMap.

PetMap cannot guarantee the identity, intentions or conduct of every person you encounter through the Services.

9. Messaging

PetMap may allow users to communicate directly.

You may not use messaging to:

  • threaten or harass others;
  • send spam;
  • commit fraud;
  • request unnecessary sensitive information;
  • distribute malicious software;
  • promote illegal activities;
  • send sexually explicit or otherwise prohibited material;
  • circumvent PetMap safety mechanisms.

We may investigate reported conversations when reasonably necessary to protect users, animals or PetMap.

10. Content you provide

You retain ownership of content you create and upload to PetMap.

By submitting content, you grant PetMap a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, distribute and technically modify that content as necessary to operate, promote and improve PetMap.

For example, this allows us to display your pet’s photos in discovery results and resize a video for different devices.

This license ends when your content is deleted from PetMap, except where continued retention is reasonably necessary for backups, legal obligations, safety or content previously shared outside your account.

11. Prohibited content and behavior

You may not use PetMap to:

  • violate applicable law;
  • deceive or defraud others;
  • harass, threaten or intimidate people;
  • promote animal cruelty;
  • impersonate others;
  • publish content you do not have the right to share;
  • expose another person’s private information;
  • distribute malware;
  • scrape PetMap without authorization;
  • interfere with PetMap’s operation or security;
  • circumvent access restrictions;
  • automate account creation or abusive activity;
  • use PetMap to facilitate illegal transactions.

We may remove content or restrict accounts that violate these rules.

12. Health information

Information concerning a pet’s health, vaccination, microchip, neutering/spaying, weight or medical history may be supplied by users, shelters or associations.

Unless expressly indicated otherwise, PetMap does not independently verify this information.

PetMap does not provide veterinary advice.

Always consult an appropriately qualified veterinarian when making decisions about an animal’s health.

13. Reporting problems

If you encounter:

  • a suspicious account;
  • misleading pet information;
  • suspected fraud;
  • abusive behavior;
  • animal-welfare concerns;
  • inappropriate content;

please report it through PetMap or contact safety@petmap.app.

Reports do not guarantee a particular outcome, but we may investigate and take action we consider appropriate.

14. Enforcement

We may remove content, limit functionality, suspend accounts or terminate access when we reasonably believe:

  • these Terms have been violated;
  • fraud or abuse has occurred;
  • an account creates a safety risk;
  • an animal may be endangered;
  • doing so is necessary to protect PetMap or its users;
  • we are required to do so by law.

Serious violations may result in immediate suspension without prior notice.

15. Third-party services

PetMap may integrate with third-party services, including authentication providers, maps or external websites.

Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

PetMap is not responsible for third-party services outside our control.

16. Intellectual property

PetMap’s software, design, branding, logos and other materials provided by us are owned by PetMap or its licensors and protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

These Terms do not grant you ownership of PetMap’s intellectual property.

17. Service availability

We’re continually improving PetMap.

Features may change, become unavailable or be discontinued.

We do not guarantee that PetMap will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free.

18. Disclaimers

To the extent permitted by law, PetMap is provided “as is” and “as available.”

We do not guarantee:

  • that every listing is accurate;
  • that every pet remains available;
  • that every user is trustworthy;
  • that every adoption will succeed;
  • the health, temperament, history or suitability of an animal;
  • the conduct of users outside PetMap.

Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or protections that cannot legally be excluded under applicable consumer law.

19. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, PetMap and its affiliates will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising from your use of PetMap.

PetMap is not responsible for agreements, interactions or disputes between users except to the extent required by applicable law.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.

20. Termination

You may stop using PetMap at any time.

We may suspend or terminate access when permitted under these Terms.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination—including provisions concerning intellectual property, liability and disputes—will continue to apply.

21. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as PetMap changes.

If a change materially affects your rights, we will provide reasonable notice where required.

Continued use after the updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.

22. Governing law

[INSERT GOVERNING JURISDICTION AND COMPANY LEGAL ENTITY]

This section should be completed based on the company that legally operates PetMap and the markets in which you’re launching.
