Location information
PetMap uses location to help people discover adoptable pets and organizations nearby.
Depending on your device permissions, we may receive your precise or approximate location.
You can change PetMap’s access to your location at any time through your device settings.
We do not require you to publicly display your precise physical location. PetMap may use less precise location information when presenting pets or users to others where appropriate for safety and privacy.
Information collected automatically
When you use PetMap, we may automatically collect technical information such as:
- device and operating-system information;
- IP address;
- app version;

- pages or screens viewed;
- timestamps and session information.
We use this information to operate, secure and improve PetMap.

PetMap may allow you to sign in using services such as Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In.
When you use one of these services, we receive information permitted by you and the authentication provider, such as your account identifier, name or email address.
PetMap does not receive your Apple or Google password.
3. How we use information
We use information to:

Where required by law, we rely on an appropriate legal basis for processing your personal information, such as providing the Services you requested, your consent, our legitimate interests, or compliance with legal obligations.
4. Information visible to other users
PetMap is designed around discovering pets and communicating with the people caring for them.
Depending on how you use PetMap, other users may see information such as:
- your display name and profile photo;
- public profile information;
- pets you list;
- pet photos and videos;
- pet descriptions and characteristics;
- general location information;
- whether you represent a shelter, association or private family;

- information you intentionally publish.
Messages are visible to the participants in the conversation and may be accessed by PetMap when reasonably necessary for safety, moderation, support, legal compliance or enforcement of our Terms.
Do not publish home addresses, identity documents, financial information, or other sensitive personal information in public profiles or pet listings.
5. Location and safety
PetMap is intended to help people connect locally, but your safety comes first.
We may limit the precision of locations displayed publicly. A pet appearing on a map does not necessarily indicate the exact physical location of the animal or its caretaker.
Never rely solely on a PetMap location marker when arranging an in-person meeting.
6. Verification
PetMap may perform verification checks on shelters, associations, families or other users.
Verification may involve information supplied directly by the user or information obtained through service providers.
A PetMap verification indicator means that the applicable verification process was completed at the relevant time. It does not constitute a guarantee, endorsement, background check, or assurance regarding a person’s conduct, the condition of a pet, or the outcome of an adoption.
7. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information with service providers that help us operate PetMap, including providers of:
- cloud hosting;
- authentication;
- email and notifications;
- analytics;
- content storage and delivery;
- security and fraud prevention;
- customer support;
- verification services.
These providers may process information only as necessary to provide their services to us and subject to appropriate contractual obligations.
We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to:
- comply with applicable law or valid legal requests;
- protect users, animals, PetMap or the public;
- investigate fraud or abuse;
- enforce our Terms;
- respond to emergencies;
- complete a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization or sale of the business.
8. Photos, videos and other content
When you upload photos, videos, text or other content, we store and process that content to provide PetMap’s features.
Some content is intended to be publicly visible—for example, pet profiles and reels.
Before uploading content, make sure you have the necessary rights and permissions to share it.
9. Pet health information
Pet profiles may include information such as vaccination, microchip, neutering/spaying and weight status.
This information is provided for adoption and informational purposes. Unless PetMap explicitly indicates otherwise, pet health information is supplied by the person or organization responsible for the listing and has not been independently verified by PetMap or a veterinarian.
PetMap is not a veterinary service, and information presented through PetMap should not replace professional veterinary advice or examination.
10. Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to:
- provide PetMap;
- maintain your account;
- fulfill the purposes described in this Policy;
- meet legal and regulatory requirements;
- resolve disputes;

When information is no longer required, we may delete or anonymize it.
Certain information may remain in backups for a limited period after deletion.
11. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to:
- access your information;
- correct inaccurate information;
- request deletion;
- obtain a copy of certain information;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- withdraw consent where processing relies on consent;
- lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
You can also manage certain information directly through PetMap.

We may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests.
12. Account deletion
You may request deletion of your PetMap account through the application where available or by contacting us.
Deleting your account may remove or anonymize your profile and associated information, subject to information we must retain for legitimate safety, fraud-prevention or legal reasons.
13. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse or alteration.
No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
You should immediately contact us if you believe your PetMap account or information has been compromised.
14. Children
PetMap is not intended for children under 13, or a higher minimum age where required by local law.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the applicable minimum age.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to PetMap improperly, contact us at privacy@petmap.app.
15. International transfers
PetMap and its service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live.
Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers of personal information.
